What are The Seven Wonders of India?
1. Taj Mahal, Uttar Pradesh
The Taj Mahal is a very beautiful building located in the city of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The construction of which started in the year 1962 and it took about 17 years to build it. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz. This white marble is made of stone, which gives a strange feeling when viewed at night. It shines like milk in the moonlit night. Where is it that after the construction of the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan had the artisans who built the Taj Mahal cut their hands so that no such building could be built again. Taj Mahal is also called a symbol of love. It is covered in wonders with the world. Millions of tourists from all over the world come to see it.
2. Golden Temple, Punjab
This temple is also one of the seven wonders of India. This temple is located in Amritsar, Punjab, which is the most important pilgrimage center of Sikhism. This Gurudwara is one of the oldest Gurudwaras in Sikhism. This Gurudwara is situated in the middle of a lake. Due to the outer part of the Gurudwara being made of gold, it is known as ‘Golden Temple’. This temple is known by the name of “Darbar Sahib”. As grand and beautiful as this temple is, it is also huge.
This temple is famous not only in India but all over the world. Because here devotees from all over the world come to pay their respects. The Golden Temple is also called the house of God. There is an entrance gate all around this temple and there is also a lake around it which looks very beautiful in appearance. This temple has been built in grand ways. If you go to visit the Golden Temple, then you must also visit Bagha Border. Which is only a few kilometers away from here.
3. Gomateshwara Temple, Karnataka
This temple is famous all over the world by the name of Shravanabelagola which is located in Karnataka. It is one of the major religious places for the people of Jainism. A huge monolithic statue of Gommateshwar is located in this temple which was carved out of a large white stone in 883 AD. One has to climb 618 steps to reach this idol. Now you can guess how this idol must have been made of stone and how it would have stood at such a height. The height of this idol is about 60 feet. This temple is famous all over the world. This temple is also called the religious temple of Jainism. Lakhs of devotees visit this temple every year.
3. Nalanda University, Bihar
Nalanda University located in Nalanda district of Bihar is one of the seven wonders of India. Nalanda University was established in the 5th century. It is believed to be the oldest university in history. Where once in history 2000 teachers used to study 10,000 students. Not only from India but people from China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, Mongolia, Iran, Indonesia used to come here to get education. Nalanda University was a thriving university from 500 to 1300.
After this it was destroyed three times by the invaders. Out of which it was repaired twice but the third time it was not able to be repaired. So it was left as it is after some repairs. It is said that there were so many books in the library of this university that it took many years to burn it but still it could not burn completely. It is said that about 90 lakh manuscripts and thousands of books were kept in its library. The library of Nalanda University was of 9 storeys which was divided into three parts. Today this university looks like a ruin but still tourists visit this university every year.
4. Hampi, Karnataka
It is located in the Indian state of Karnataka. It was the capital of Vijayanagara in the medieval period. Today the city is visible only in the form of ruins. Seeing these ruins, it is realized how developed the civilization was at that time. This city has been included in UNESCO World Heritage.
Even today, thousands of monuments are seen in the form of ruins, in which thousands of buildings like palaces, temples, water tanks, basements, markets are present, thousands of people from abroad come here to see them. Vithala Temple located in Hampi is one of the major centers here, which is a wonderful specimen of the building art of South India. It is impossible to describe the sight here in words.
5. Khajuraho Temple, Madhya Pradesh
This temple is located in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. This temple was built during the reign of Chandela Empire. It was constructed between 950 and 1050. In ancient times this temple was also known as ‘Khajurpura’ and ‘Khajur Vahika’. Many unique sculptures are seen inside this temple which makes it a different temple.
The idols located inside this temple are of Hinduism and Jainism. Due to its unique architecture, this temple is known not only in India but all over the world and all these features make it one of the seven wonders of India. This temple is also included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage. It would not be an exaggeration to call this temple a symbol of love. Every year lakhs of people come from abroad to see this temple.
7. Konark Temple, Orissa
This temple is located in Karnataka which is also known as Black Pagoda. This temple was built in the 13th century. This temple is one of the largest temples in India. However, with the passage of time this temple is losing its original form. It is a sun temple dedicated to Lord Surya. This temple is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage.
In the beginning of this temple, sculptures of animals like lions and elephants are seen. The special structure of this temple is that it is indicated by seven horses carrying the sky. This temple is built in Kalinga style. And for this reason this temple has been considered as one of the wonders with India. People come here in large numbers to see this temple.
