But hardly do you know that Cambodia has the largest Hindu temple in the world. This is known as the Encore temple. The temple is located in a town called Ankoraiyom, which in ancient times was called Yashodharpur. This huge magnificent temple houses Lord Vishnu, built by King Suryavarma of Cambodia in the 12th century.
You will be surprised to know that there is a deep moat around this temple, which is two and a half miles long and 650 feet wide. A stone bridge was built to cross this ditch.
The Angkor Wat Temple is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The walls of this ancient temple depict the themes of Indian Hindu scriptures in detail. It also shows a scene of the sea churning between demons and gods.
The temple is located on a high platform, which has three sections. Beautiful sculptures have been created in these three sections and steps have also been made to reach the top from each section. Each section has eight domes and all these domes are 180 feet high. The main temple is located on the roof of the third section.

You can get an idea of the enormity of this temple that a huge door has been built to enter the temple which is about 1001 feet wide. The temple is surrounded by three and a half kilometers long stone walls. Next to this wall is a 800 feet wide pit, with a 38 feet wide bridge over it. The first section of the temple can be reached through this bridge.
