The preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi start almost a month before the festival. The festival lasts for about ten days (from Bhadrapada Shuddha Chaturthi to Anant Chaturdashi). On the first day, clay idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes. On the last day of the festival, the idol of Lord Ganesha is taken out on the streets. People show their enthusiasm and joy by dancing and singing in the streets with the idol. Finally the idol is immersed in the river or sea.
